Climate Champion awards

What is a Climate Champion?

A Climate Champion is someone who lives in Maple Ridge – or a local business or organization – who takes action to fight the causes of climate change.

  • Maybe it’s a teacher who helps their students learn about the causes of climate change and what each of us can do to reduce our carbon footprint.
  • It might be an architect who designs buildings to high efficiency standards.
  • Or a builder who recycles materials during demolition, rather than sending it all to the landfill.
  • Perhaps it’s someone who advocates for active transportation, from safe cycling and walking routes to more extensive and frequent buses and trains. Or a person who cycles everywhere by choice.
  • It could be a business that’s committed to reducing their emissions through purchasing, operations or delivery.
  • Or an individual who reduces their own emissions through energy retrofits to their home, different transportation and food choices, or impressive efforts to reduce waste.
